Store bought animal crackers contain lots of bad fat from shortening and lots of sugar to keep your kids munching on them.
I decided to make some at home and my son can't stop eating them! He even said they're better than the store's ones! Can we have a moment please to celebrate this mom win? Ok amazing now here is the recipe:
Homemade Animal Crackers (refined sugar free)
Ingredients:
2 T avocado oil or 3 tbsp soft butter or earth balance
2 T maple syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup organic flour (we use this one)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Dump all the ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer and mix until a dough forms, if it's too liquidy or oily add a bit more flour.
Refrigerate in Saran Wrap for a half hour.
After 30 minutes, roll it out onto unbleached parchement paper and then cut out the animal shapes with the cutters. (Linked them here)
Transfer to a non toxic baking pan (we use this one) and bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes (keep checking until they're golden brown).
Enjoy!
